The surest sign that the Orioles are going to lose tonight's game is the knowledge that, if they won it, they would be in first place in the American League East. There are other sure signs, including the fact that Chris Tillman is starting the nightcap for the O's, and also the fact that Cleveland's Game 2 starter, Toru Murata, is a 30-year-old who will be making his MLB debut in the game.
You might as well just forget about any chance of winning this one and take comfort in knowing that the Orioles are one of four teams within a game of the lead in the division. That statement will be true even if they do somehow win, but they're not going to win. I can't stress this enough.
The afternoon game was a sellout, the third of the season at Camden Yards. Can the night game on short notice also sell out, with the Buck Showalter garden gnome giveaway and everything? That would be rather nice if it did. It might even "sell out" due to the fact that some paid attendance will be tickets that are later exchanged. The deadline to do so is August 31. Do they have to take those out of the attendance later, or do they get to double dip? I guess it doesn't really matter much.
I hope that you managed to get a gnome, although if you're reading this from the stadium before or during the game, what the hell is wrong with you? You're at Camden Yards! Get off your phone and go do something cool. Enjoy it for everyone who's stuck at home or outside of the Baltimore area.
