Doyle rules; the Keys miss a no-no; the Shorebirds go bananas...

Norfolk Tides 4, Charlotte Knights 8

Zach Davies seems to toss about one stinker per month. Today was his day. Davies struck out five, but allowed two homers and five earned runs, but still gutted out five innings. Dariel Alvarez was held hitless, but Christian Walker's bat has shown signs of waking up. Walker has homered twice and doubled in his last three games.

Bowie Baysox 7, Harrisburg Senators 2

At 29, Doyle, the former BC man is not going to be rocketing up any prospect lists, but everybody's got a part to play and on the Baysox, Doyle is the craft vet. Recent acquisition Richard Rodriguez followed up with three shutout innings. Another wily vet doing time in Bowei, Tucker Nathans, homered for the second time since moving up to Bowie from Frederick. Nathans was an indy league reclamation project that's slugging .529 since getting the call.

Frederick Keys 6, Potomac Nationals 0

Ariel Miranda may be ready to take the next step up the chain after hurling six no hit innings in his latest outing for the Keys. The Cuban defector had struck out 13 and allowed one earned run in his last two starts. Jay Gonzalez is another recent arrival to Frederick adjusting to life in the Carolina League. At the end of Friday's game, Gonzalez was sporting an unsightly .278 OPS. After going seven for his last eight, Gonzalez can now boast (well, maybe not boast) a more respectable .607 OPS. Batting behind Gonzalez on this day, Josh Hart was 2-3 with a double and three runs driven in. "His name is" Tad Gold singled and walked.

Delamarva Shorebirds 16, Greensboro Grasshoppers 6

Everything was firing on all cylinders for the Shorebirds offense today. Stephen Wilkerson and T.J. Oleszcuk reached base four times with the former scoring four times. Yermin Mercedes and Logan Uxa each homered. John Means struck out seven in five innings and has struck out fifteen in his last eleven innings pitched.

The Ironbirds game was rained out.
