Orioles Minor League Rundown: 7-20-15

A lot of dingers and a walk off highlight the O's minors action on Monday

Pawtucket (Red Sox), 3 Norfolk 7

Christian Walker is feelin' it. He's now hit 3 dingers in his last 4 game, and went 2-4 with 3 RBI for him on the day. Dariel Alvarez went 0-3 w/ a sac fly. Steve Clevenger went 1-3 with a walk. Chris Jones has been a gem for the Tides since he was acquired last season, and 7 innings with 3 ER allowed in this one qualifies as one of his poorer efforts of the season. His ERA sits at 2.79. The defense turned 4 GIDPs. That'll play.

Reading (Phillies) 8, Bowie 5

After a string of good / great outings Parker Bridwell had his customary stinker: 2.1 IP, 8 H, 1 BB, 4 ER, and 1 WP. Shake it off, buddy. Quincy Latimore hit 2 solo dingers and went 3-5 with 3 RsBI. MIke Yaz was 1-5, Trey Mancini 2-5, and Brandon Snyder 2-4 with a walk.

Potomac (Nats) 5, Frederick 6

The Keys walked it off courtesy of a bases loaded 2 RBI single from Jeff Kemp. Suck it, Gnats. Chance Sisco went an uncharacteristic 0-4, but he draw a walk to load the bases in the 9th. Josh Hart had a double and RBI as he went 1-5 w/ 2 Ks. Luis Gonzalez pitched well, allowing just 2 ERs over 6.1 IP. This helped him get his ERA under 7. oof.

Greensboro (Marlins) 2, Delmarva 3

I had no idea who Yermin Mercedes was until a few days ago. Evidently he came over from the Nats DSL squad and the O's put him in Low-A as a 22 year old. He's been tearing the cover off the ball of late. Take out 2 0-5 clunkers and he's batting .500 over his last 10 games with 3 homers and a triple. He's SLGing a healthy .55o over 110+ odd plate appearances thus far. 1-4 w/ a triple and 2 RsBI in this one. Though he added a GIDP and a throwing error for good measure. They can't all be zingers.

Dariel Delgado walked 3 and K'd 3 over 4 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs, though both were deemed unearned. '13 40th Rd. pick Garrett Cortright has a 1.17 ERA over 28 appearances and 39.1 IP thus far. Could he be the next in a recent string of late round pitching finds such as Zach Davies and Tim Berry?

Aberdeen 2, Tri-Cities (Astros) 7 (Game 1, 7 innings)

D.J. Stewart had his best game yet, going 2-3 with a triple and a dinger. Unfortunately the rest of the offense was quiet, K'ing 9 times vs. a total of 5 hits. Lazaro Levya was the only pitcher not to allow a bunch of runs, in spite of walking 3 over 2 otherwise clean innings.

Aberdeen 3, Tri-Cities 1 (Game 2, 8 innings)

Stewart hit his 2nd dinger of the day in the 1st of this game. Steve Laurino went 1-4 with a 2 RBI single in the 8th to put the Ironbirds on top. Francisco Jimenez gave up 3 hits and 1 ER over 5 IP. Garrett Cleavinger has 8 Ks over 5 appearances and 6 innings of scoreless work thus far. Dunkirk, MD local Ryan Meisinger has outdone his teammate with 11 Ks over 6 appearances and 6 innings of scoreless pitching.
