The standard civilized baseball start time is 7:05pm Eastern. Baseball that occurs in other time zones is inherently unnatural. That extra hour waiting around for the O's game to start feels like an eternity, somehow, even though you've got all day to prepare for the reality of it. The good news is that the next two games in the series are 2:10 games, which is also an unnatural time to start a game, but at least you don't have to wait all day for that.
The White Sox are not having very good fortune up to this point in the year. They're in last, ten games out of first place, and they came into today having scored the fewest runs of any American League team. They're also allowing many runs despite having a pitching staff that contains the likes of Chris Sale and Jeff Samardzija, both of whom the Orioles will get to see over the course of this series. Just not tonight. For tonight it's John Danks.
Danks' struggle has been parallel to the White Sox at large. He comes into tonight's game with an ERA over 5. Of course, we know how the Orioles tend to do against those guys (or at least we know how we feel like they tend to do, which is not the same thing as how they actually do). One person who won't be glad to see Danks is Adam Jones, who in his career has one hit and one walk in 31 plate appearances against Danks. Like, what are you going to do, not play Jones because he sucks against Danks?
Perhaps that does represent a better option, but it's not the one the Orioles are taking tonight.
Starting for the O's tonight is Ubaldo Jimenez. One thing I am not yet used to is the fact that this is not a terrible thing to have to look forward to.
