Two 1-0 wins on the farm and some intriguing left-handed pitching throughout the system

Les Treagus/Norfolk Tides

Norfolk 1 Louisville (Reds) 0

(1B) Christian Walker hit a 6th inning dinger and (LHP) Chris Jones allowed just 2 hits over 8 shutout innings to propel the Tides to their 70th win of the season. Walker's shot was his 14th of the season and 3rd in his last 10 games. Too bad for him that at this point he has about a less than zero chance of being called up prior to September due to Chris Davis' crushing. Dariel Alvarez has a better shot of getting a call up should the recently promoted Henry Urrutia not be able to hack it. Alvarez went 3 for 4. He's slashing a respectable .275 / .326 / .450 over his last 10 games. Since moving into the rotation on May 8th, Chris Jones has made 18 starts and posted a 2.86 ERA over 110 IP. He turns 27 in September.

Bowie 9 Harrisburg (Nats) 1

Speaking of good starting pitching, (LHP) Ariel Miranda K'd 10 over 7 innings. He allowed just 5 hits, issued 1 walk, and 1 earned run on evening. He now has 5 starts with Bowie, covering 28.2 IP and resulting in a 1.57 ERA. He has K'd 29 and walked just 9. He'll be 27 to start next season. (RHP) Jon Keller handled the final 2 innings with aplomb, K'ing 2 while allowing just 1 hit. The 22nd rounder from the '13 draft just turned 23.

The top 1/3rd of the lineup combined to go 8-18 with 2 doubles, 4 runs scored, 7 RsBI, and a SB. Trey Mancini and Corban Joesph each went 3-6. Chance Sisco caught, and allowed the only SB attempt to succeed. But he also went 2 for 5 at the plate, and that's where his bread will be buttered going forward. Mike Yastzemski went 0 for 3 but did walk twice.

Carolina (Atlanta) 0 Frederick 1

Two 1-0 wins on the farm on the same day! (RHP) Mikey O'Brien went 7.1 innings and Stephan Crichton covered the final 1.2 innings. O'Brien K'd 6 and walked 1. (DH) Yasiel Mederos led of the 2nd with a double and came in to score via an (2B) Anthony Caronia single. (CF) Josh Hart went 1 for 3 and hit his 12th two-bagger of the season.

Lakewood (Phillies) 8 Delmarva 1

(LHP) Brian Gonzalez didn't have it here, yielding 5 ER over 3.2 IP. He walked 4 and allowed 4 hits. (DH) Yermin Mercedes was the one bright spot of the game for the Shorebirds, going 4 for 4 with a double and an RBI. However, he also got TOOTBLAN'd twice. Lakewood had 3 OF Assists on the night. sheesh...(3B) Jomar Reyes went 1 for 4 and committed his 10th error of the year.

Aberdeen 8 Connecticut (Tigers) 3

(LF) D.J. Stewart his a Grand Slam in the 3rd, his 5th dinger of the season. (CF) Cedric Mullins went 3 for 5 with a double, 2 RsBI, and a run scored. 21 year old (LHP) Kevin Grendell K'd 5 over 3 shutout innings of relief work. He has K'd 29 over 29.1 IP and posted a 1.84 ERA this season. Daniel Ayers walked 5 over 1+ innings of work, but somehow only allowed 1 ER to score.
