If the season ended today...it would be kind of weird because there are 46 games left. Seriously, though, while fan opinion may have reached a season low after a losing west coast road trip capped off by a no hitter, the Orioles are giving their fans something to believe in after two consecutive walk off wins and an absolute demotion of the Oakland A's. Of course, the O's will face Sonny Gray, Jacob DeGrom (of the Flushing DeGroms) and Noah Syndergaard on consecutive days to open the work week. Yes, at the moment the O's hold the second wild card spot in the AL. What's next?

On this day in 1963, Dick Hall retired his 28th consecutive batter (spanning five appearances). Cal Ripken passed Steve Garvey on the all time consecutive games list on this day in 1989 by playing in 1,208th consecutive game.
It's the birthday of prolific slugger and purveyor of smoked meats John Wesley "Boog" Powell. Accept no substitutes. Chris Waters and Jim Buzhardt also have birthdays today. While he never played for the O's, Diego Segui has a birthday today and he fathered David Segui, who begat Cory Segui. If I'm bringing non-O's into this, I'll offer the briefest of shout outs to my main man Tuffy Gosewisch, brother of Chip....and also wish a happy birthday to Steve Sharts.
