The Monday night Orioles game thread: at Walgreens, 7:05

New, comments

What's good, everyone? Not the Orioles on the road, sadly. They run out a B-team lineup on Walgreens home turf on Monday night. At least no one has to listen to the other MASN announcers unless they really want to.

Flu shot season is upon us and the Orioles, with that in mind, have piled in to the nearest Walgreens pharmacy in order to try to build up some resistance against the expected strains to be found this fall or winter. This is a reasonably sensible strategy to pursue, especially given that both the O's and the staff of said pharmacy will have their share of idle time coming up in a couple of weeks. Don't want to get sick before you take that vacation.

Anyway, the Orioles. It's an Adam Jones-less lineup, again, which is apparently because after four days of playing on the carpet of the Trop, Jones could use a day off. That's also sensible enough, even though it also creates the unfortunate circumstance that Steve Pearce is the cleanup hitter and right fielder in 2015. Look at this lineup! You see the lineup. There are a lot of horrible things in the outfield.

Meanwhile, this lineup will go up against Gio Gonzalez. The O's have sucked against lefties this year. Like, really badly. Why do they have to be so bad against lefties? Gio Gonzalez is a lefty. He had a great July, a bad August, and is thus far having a nice September. Whether any of that portends anything for tonight, who knows. And the Orioles struggling against lefty pitchers is a secondary concern to how much their starting rotation has struggled this year anyway.

Which, speaking of that... Ubaldo Jimenez awaits tonight. He'll even get to bat a couple of times to potentially help himself out - at least, if he can last enough innings on the mound that he gets to bat twice, which is no sure thing. I wish this season was more fun. Anyway, the Orioles need to finish the final 13 games by going 8-5 to finish .500. I don't see it happening.
