The Sunday afternoon Orioles game thread: at Red Sox, 1:35

Adam Jones is back in the Orioles lineup for the series finale against the Red Sox. Maybe this time they can actually score at least one run.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

There is naught left for the Orioles to do except play for pride and a better next contract. Even the ones who aren't about to be free agents could always stand to pile up better numbers for the sake of arbitration or something. What's that worth to anybody? I don't know. It's not as fun as watching a team that's legitimately in the periphery of the postseason hunt, that's for sure.

But, there are only eight games left this year. After that, the only choice for baseball will be to talk ourselves into caring about inferior, non-Orioles teams in the postseason, and a bit farther beyond that will be having to talk ourselves into caring about the inferior-non-baseball sports that get us through the winter. That's a grim picture... although still not as grim as the prospect of the Orioles offseason itself. Ah, man. The offseason sucks.

One bit of good news today is that Adam Jones is back in the lineup. Maybe he can at least help them score like, one run. Not that one run is likely to be enough to win any given game. Maybe we'll all be wishing we were watching football instead.
