Ubaldo Jimenez against the Blue Jays in Toronto? Good God.
Oh, and Matt Wieters is catching for the third straight game, which is something that is supposed to be exciting. He made a nice throw in the last game, I guess. Or maybe that was the game before. It's also possible I imagined this. One thing I haven't imagined is that in terms of the concept of pitch framing, Wieters ranks among the worst catchers in baseball this year.
I would have to commit seppuku if I cited catcher ERA at any point in my life. So I will not do that. If some person happened to look at that data for Wieters compared to Caleb Joseph this season, however, meaningless as it is widely accepted to be, that person would encounter a delta that is large enough that it might get them wondering what is the reason for that delta.
Perhaps there is a reason other than, "Wieters is not calling good games" - for instance, against a potent Blue Jays lineup tonight, whoever is pitching and whoever is catching is probably about to get wrecked. But it does make you wonder.
By the way, Orioles nemesis (aren't they all Orioles nemeses lately?) Drew Hutchison is starting for the Jays. Just what we needed to make it all better.
