Hey, the Orioles won! How about that?

Steven Ryan/Getty Images

Good morning, Camden Chatters. It's still not a fun time to be an Orioles fan, but things do tend to look better after a win. It'd be really sweet if they could lock up tonight's game and finally win a series. With CC Sabathia on the mound for the Yankees, they could do just that!

The Tides and Baysox start their respective playoff runs tonight, so we have that to look forward to! OK, so it's not THAT exciting, but I for one am happy that we'll have a few more days of Trey Mancini in our lives before the minor leagues close up shop.

Chris Davis finding success against lefties |
He hits dingers. He hits against lefties. He is, in the words of Kevin Gausman, a freak. I really, really hope the Orioles can re-sign him.

The 2015 Orioles are the Worst Ever Orioles with a 40-Home-Run Hitter | Baltimore Sports and Life
There are a lot of charts in this article that talk about how teams with a 40+ HR hitter aren't usually better for it.

Can Britton Start In 2016? | Camden Depot
It's tempting to imagine a pitcher as successful as Zach Britton has been as a closer in the Orioles rotation, but Camden Depot shows us why that might not be a good idea.

Can The Orioles Avoid Finishing In The American League East Cellar In 2015? | Press Box Online
The Orioles are one game ahead of the Red Sox after last night, but who will win, er, lose the race to the cellar?

The time has come for Baltimore Orioles to embrace Henry Urrutia and Dariel Alvarez | Baseball Essential
There is a lot of Buck shaming in this article on how he has run the outfield this year. I don't really agree with that, he had to use the players he had. But I don't disagree that it'd be nice to see more of Alvarez, because why not?

Nationals Collapse in Late Innings, Suffer Devastating Loss to Mets | Washington Post
If rooting against the Nats is something you enjoy doing, last night was like Christmas morning. They blew a 7-1 lead thanks to a six-run, six-walk seventh inning.

Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! Your Orioles birthday buddies include Todd Zeile, Jim Corsi, Kurt Ainsworth, and Rhyne "Baby Rhino" Hughes. Today's birthdays also include: model Rachel Hunter; former funny man and writer of Red Hooded Sweatshirt, Adam Sander; and Tom "Luke Duke" Wopat. Two sexy men from a favorite current show of mine and a favorite past show of mine are also celebrating. Charles Esten, who plays Deacon on Nashville, turns 50 today, and Goran Visnjic, AKA Dr. Kovac from ER, is 43.

Of those who are no longer with us, today is the birthday of singer Otis Redding (1941-1967) and KFC man currently being portrayed by Norm McDonald, Colonel Sanders (1890-1980).

This Day in History

In 1979, the Orioles beat the Red Sox 16-4 thanks in part to a grand slam from Rick Dempsey. It was the O's seventh win in a row. Those were the days. And in 2009, Brian Roberts hit his 50th double, making him just the fourth major leaguer to hit 50 doubles three times.

In non-Orioles history, it was on this day in 1776 that Congress re-named our country the United States of Americas as opposed to the United Colonies. In 1850 California became the 31st state, and in 1965 Sandy Koufax pitched a perfect game.
