Wednesday Bird Droppings

We're in the doldrums of the offseason, folks.

I think that today might be the worst day I've ever had trying to compile Orioles links for you all. I can't find anything! And while you might think that compiling loads of links would be more time consuming than compiling close to zero, you would be wrong. There isn't even anything new on MASN or BaltimoreSun.com.

Yesterday that big baseball news was that Adam Jones and Chris Davis talked on Twitter. So far today doesn't even have that.

What would Antonio Bastardo add to the Orioles 'pen? | Baseball Essential
You may have seen the rumor yesterday that the Orioles are interested in Antonio Bastardo. This writer recommends it despite Bastardo's history of high walks. Yesterday Mark told me he'd rather have Brian Matusz for one year than Bastardo for three, and you know how he feels about Matusz.

Kenta Maeda Seems Underpaid | Camden Depot
You wonder why the Orioles don't think of such a creative contract. Of course, word on the street now is that the Dodgers are having an issue with Maeda's physical.

Outfield Notes: Angels, Upton, Cespedes, Parra, Span - MLB Trade Rumors
I'd normally link the source and not MLBTR, but since the source is behind a paywall, MLBTR will do. Jim Bowden says that Justin Upton and Yoenis Cespedes are waiting to see what Chris Davis does, because they all want to be Orioles very badly. I may have inferred that last part.

Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! You share it with current Oriole Kevin Gausman, who turns 25 today. It's also the 34th birthday of forgettable relief pitcher Brian Bass and the 53rd birthday of Norm Charlton. Charlton slummed it with the Orioles for one season near the end of his career. And it's the 83rd birthday of Mr. Lenny Green, who played for the Orioles for four seasons at the start of his 12-year career.

On this day in 2009 the Orioles signed Koji Uehara to a two-year, $10M deal. That was a great move because we loved Koji for awhile, and then he was traded for Chris Davis, who many of us hope we'll get to love for years to come.
