Tuesday MLB Playoffs Open Thread

New, comments

Will there be a Game 5 in either of the National League Division Series? In both cases, the home team enters Game 4 trailing 2-1, so they will have to win just to force a decisive Game 5 in the other team's city. It's been a wild postseason already, but you probably don't get much more wild than what happened between the Cubs and the Giants last night.

You will, however, have to wait to get more Cubs and Giants, because their game does not get underway until 8:30pm Eastern. It took four hours just for those two teams to play nine innings yesterday and they went on beyond that. That was definitely wild, but there is nothing fun about a nine inning game taking four hours to play.

First up is the game between the Dodgers and Walgreens at 5pm. Facing elimination, the Dodgers are deploying Clayton Kershaw on short rest to try to save their season.

You can't really lose as a manager if you send out Kershaw in a potentially season-ending game. If he ends up not pitching well, you still lost with your best pitcher. If he does pitch well and the Dodgers win the game and keep the series alive, then hey, you're the genius who decided to go bold and use Kershaw on short rest to get the job done.

Baltimore partisan that I am, I'll be rooting for Kershaw and friends tonight.
