It's the day before Turkey Day! I know a lot of you are getting ready to leave work early to start your four-day weekend, but hopefully you'll have some time for links and conversation.
The Orioles did something yesterday! They got their new pitching coach and bullpen coach. OK, so it's not that exciting, but a lot of people are happy about the choices made and at least it's something. One good thing about Thanksgiving is that when it's over, the Orioles might finally get some new players! Or not.
Shall we move on to the links?
Orioles' designated hitter, outfield needs could be filled in non-tender market - Baltimore Sun
A look at players who might be non-tendered, or those who could be traded to the Orioles in a salary dump. Chris Carter, anyone?
McDowell on becoming Orioles pitching coach - School of Roch
Do you want to read some feel-good quotes from the new pitching coach? Here they are!
Alan Mills on joining the Orioles as bullpen coach - Steve Melewski
Ditto Alan Mills.
What Should The Os Expect From Bundy in 2017? - Camden Depot
If Dylan Bundy can get those home run numbers under control (and I think he can) we might be in for an exciting 2017 from him.
Baltimore Orioles Should Trade Closer Zach Britton Now - Call to the Pen
Everyone has an opinion on Zach Britton! My opinion is I like having him in the Orioles bullpen.
Jason Castro signs three-year deal with Twins - Yahoo Sports
Hey the Orioles need a catcher. Do you think they should have considered Jason Castro at the affordable price of three year, $24M? Castro can't hit (but the Orioles are used to that in their catchers!) but his defense is above average.
Pirates announce Holiday Six-Pack plans to go on sale for “Black Friday” - The Express
This isn't Orioles related, but just another example of something other teams are doing that the Orioles could do, but don't. The Pirates are selling a holiday six-pack which comes with a Pirates water bottle, a $5 concession credit to go with every ticket included in the six-pack, and all who buy are able to participate in an Opening Day pre-sale. Not bad!
Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! You have quite a few Orioles birthday buddies to celebrate with. Former Orioles prospects Brandon Snyder and Justin Turner both celebrate today. Turner's post-Orioles career has gone a bit better than Snyder's. In the blink-and-you-missed-them category are Ryan McGuire and John Anderson. McGuire appeared in 17 games for the 2002 Birds and Anderson made four relief appearances in 1960. And finally it is the birthday of Todd Cruz, who had a respectable but undistinguished major league career that lasted six seasons. The final two were with the Orioles from 1983-84.
