On this day in 1951, Pete Hill passed away. Hill managed the Black Sox in the mid 20s. The Orioles signed Rick Sutcliffe to a free agent deal on this day in 1991.

Legendary P.A. announcer Rex Barney would be 92 today. Barney was, of course, famous for his "Give that fan a contract!" catch phrase in addition to just being one heck of an announcer. Native son Al Kaline was born on this day in 1934. Former Orioles celebrating birthdays today include Doug Johns, Chito Martinez and Mike Fetters.
