With each passing spring training game, the regular season creeps a little closer. There's now just more than three weeks worth of games until Opening Day gets here. The time for excuses for poor performance will soon be over; it won't all be meaningless. But for now it's still meaningless, and good thing it is, because the Orioles, of course, still haven't won a game.
It would certainly be nice for them to win, just so everyone stops talking about how they haven't won yet. Then you look at a lineup like this and it's clear winning is not the goal:
1. Joey Rickard CF
2. Ryan Flaherty 2B
3. Nolan Reimold RF
4. Hyun Soo Kim LF
5. Christian Walker 1B
6. Henry Urrutia DH
7. Francisco Pena C
8. Steve Tolleson 3B
9. Paul Janish SS
SP - Mike Wright - RHP
The counter is that the O's have lost some games where the other team was fielding a lineup like this against the O's regulars. So if you want to find a reason to panic, you can. I suggest spending your time doing something more productive, however. Or go enjoy the weather or something.
This game will be available on MLB.tv if you are a subscriber - and if you're willing to put up with the YES broadcast crew in order to watch a spring training game.
Manager Buck Showalter has indicated that some players will be assigned to minor league camp after the game today. Thus shall begin the winnowing, which, on April 4, will have a 25-man roster.
