You're never as good as you look when you're playing well and you're never as bad as you look when you're playing poorly. That's one of those commonly-spoken adages of baseball and probably sports in general - but it matters the most in baseball because over a 162 game season there's a lot of room to cool off from a hot streak and also a lot of room to climb up from the bottom when things aren't so great.
So we can only hope it's true of the Orioles that they are not as bad as they look right now that they are playing poorly. Specifically, they are hitting poorly, although even saying "poorly" sort of implies that they have been hitting much at all, which isn't the case.
Will it get better tonight? No, probably not, although we can hope and dream that it might improve against Matt Moore, the Rays starter. He is a lefty, which was a death sentence for the O's last year, although this year they have not done badly against lefties so far. Will that carry over tonight? Will it matter even if it does? They need Chris Tillman to pitch well even if the bats come alive again. That's not any kind of sure thing.
