"Odrisamer Despaigne allowed one run over six strong innings, but Norfolk dropped a 3-0 decision Friday night at Indianapolis. Despaigne (0-4) yielded just four hits in his outing, striking out five while walking one. The lone run he surrendered came in the first frame, when Adam Frazier tripled to lead off the game and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jung Ho Kang." That's the third time the Tides have been shut out when Despaigne has started.
"Bowie got a strong start from Parker Bridwell (1-0) who allowed just two hits in five and 1/3rd innings. Of the three runs Bridwell allowed, just one was earned. Ashur Tolliver worked through the seventh inning scoreless and gave way to Stefan Crighton who set Harrisburg down in order in the eighth inning."
Frederick 2, Winston-Salem 3
Starter Lucas Long gave up just 2 runs over 6.0 IP, but reliever Luis Gonzalez gave up the go-ahead run in his third inning of work for the loss. Seven of the Nine Keys batters went hitless in the game.
The Shorebirds five game winning streak is no more. Here's what kind of game it was for Delmarva: "Chris Gittens led off the top of the second inning for the RiverDogs with a liner into the left-center field gap. The ball got past Shorebirds speedy center fielder Cedric Mullins and went all the way to the fence. Mullins thought the ball was trapped below the wall and he put his arms in the air and turned to look for umpire Ryan Barneycastle. Play was not ruled dead and Gittens rounded the bases to score on an inside the park home run. Once he crossed home plate, Barneycastle began to run out to see if the ball was truly unplayable, but Mullins picked it up and threw it back into the infield. The homer was Gittens' first of the season and it was the first home run hit in this ballpark this season, a stretch of 10 games thus far."
