Norfolk Tides 3, Pawtucket Red Sox 1
The big takeaway here is that Mike Yastrzemksi tripled and singled in his AAA debut. Not too shabby. Christian Walker and Trey Mancini were for the most part silent, though Dariel Alvarez homered. His countryman Odrisamer Despaigne was fine in his start, holding the Red Sox and once ballyhooed prospects Rusney Castillo and Blake Swihart to one run.
Frederick Keys 5, Myrtle Beach Pelicans 2
Look out, Brian Matusz! Luis Gonzalez, a youngish spare part southpaw salvaged from the Phillies system seems to have taken to his role as a reliever. Gonzalez made 40 starts over the last two seasons for Frederick and Delmarva with mixed results, but has struck out 38 in eleven appearances this season.
John Means raised his record to 4-0 going six innings and striking out eight. Jay Gonzalez doubled and stole his 23rd base. Serving as the DH, Wynston Sawyer continued his hot start to the season with a 3-4 night. Sawyer is slashing .320/.507/.440 on the year, but is in his third season at Frederick. Jonah Heim doubled.
Delmarva Shorebirds 3, West Virginia Power 6
Cedric Mullins had a three hit night and D.J. Stewart homered, but the Shorebirds fell victim to a (Lord, help me...) Power surge. Reid Love cruised through six innings and ended up with eight strikeouts, but was unable to retire a batter in the seventh. After a bases clearing double that gave the Power the lead, Patrick Baker came on in relief and allowed two more runs before all was said and done.
