Orioles minors 5/21: Double the fun for Mike Yastrzemski

Mike Yastrzemski is closer to the Orioles than he's ever been, and with performances like Saturday's, he might get all the way there.

Norfolk Tides 7, Syracuse (Walgreens) 2

Having recently been promoted to Triple-A, Mike Yastrzemski is closer to the major leagues than he has ever been - and he'd like to get the rest of the way there. Games like he had on Saturday will help his cause. Yastrzemski had a 3-4 night with two doubles and he also stole a base.

In all, the Tides had 14 hits as they collected their seven runs. Their five run sixth inning broke a scoreless tie and proved to be all they'd need. Odrisamer Despaigne started the game for Norfolk, scattering eight hits in 6.2 innings while striking out seven Chiefs batters.

Harrisburg (Walgreens) 7, Bowie Baysox 2

The pharmaceutical franchise gets their revenge a level lower. Bowie starter David Hess has been having a good season so far, but he did not have a very good night, giving up four runs on nine hits in five innings of work. Better luck next time.

The Baysox were held to only six hits on the game. Two of those were picked up by Chance Sisco. Unfortunately, it seems the Senators were running wild on Sisco, as they had four stolen bases in the game and he did not throw anybody out. Maybe they were getting stolen off of the pitchers?

Frederick Keys - postponed

Delmarva Shorebirds 2, Lakewood (Phillies) 1

The two teams were tied 1-1 headed into the eighth inning when the BlueClaws generously decided to start walking everyone in sight. Three walks in the inning and one base hit led to a run scoring, which thanks to Garrett Cleavinger and Christian Turnipseed proved to be enough to hold the lead.

Shorebirds leadoff man Cedric Mullins continued his solid performance at this level, turning in a 2-5 night with a triple - his fourth of the year. Mullins is now batting .281/.346/.438.

D.J. Stewart got in on the act, too, going 2-5 with a double and a stolen base. Stewart somehow has nine stolen bases, not too shabby for a guy whose athleticism is regularly questioned by the prospect-industrial complex. Now to start batting better than .202...
