Lehigh Valley IronPigs (PHI) 3, Norfolk Tides 2
It was a low scoring affair in Norfolk as neither team scored after the fourth inning. Tides’ starter Andy Oliver picked up the loss after a three-run fourth that saw him give up three hits and a walk. Nick Additon, normally a starter, came on in relief and pitched five shutout innings to finish the game.
First baseman Trey Mancini basically was the offense for the Tides as he picked up three of their seven hits, including a home run.
Bowie Baysox vs. Trenton Thunder (NYY) - PPD
The Baysox were postponed due to rain and will make up last night’s game with a doubleheader beginning today at 5:30.
Frederick Keys - All-Star Break
The Carolina League All-Stars (that’d be the league the Keys are in) defeated the California League All-Stars last night, 6-4. Three Keys appeared in the game, including two in the starting lineup. Catcher Jonah Heim and DH Aderlin Rodriguez each contributed one hit in the win. Starting pitcher Matthew Grimes pitched a perfect second inning.
The Keys are off today and will kick off their second half tomorrow against the Salem Red Sox.
Delmarva Shorebirds - All-Star Break
The Southern Atlantic League All-Star Game pitted two teams made up of the Sally League North and the Sally League South. Much to Bill Duck’s chagrin the Shorebirds were in the north.
The Birds had four players appear in this game. Yermin Mercedes started at catcher and went hitless while Alex Murphy DH’d and picked up a single. Both Ryan Meisinger and Garrett Cleavinger pitched in relief with Meisinger giving up a solo home run that was the southerners only run of the game.
The North All-Stars won the game 2-1. The Shorebirds will start their second half tomorrow at Kannapolis.
Staten Island Yankees 3, Aberdeen Ironbirds 2
The Birds scored one run in each of the eighth and ninth innings to attempt to come back in this game, but it was too little, too late.
Starting pitcher Jeong-Hyeon Yoon gave up three runs in 4.1 innings and took the loss. Will Shepley and Mike Burke finished the game in relief.
Leadoff batter Ryan McKenna, drafted by the Orioles last year in the fourth round, reached base three times on a double and two walks.
