Norfolk Tides 6, Lehigh Valley (Phillies) 0
A second strong start in a row for 27-year-old Cuban lefty Ariel Miranda, who’d run into some trouble in the few starts before that. Miranda held the IronPigs to only three hits over six innings of work. He picked up five strikeouts along the way. Not bad at all. As it is, Lehigh Valley only had four hits for the whole game.
The Tides were able to generate six runs of offense despite going only 1-8 with runners in scoring position. It helps that the lone hit with RISP was a grand slam, hit by Ozzie Martinez. Christian Walker went 2-3 with a double and also drew a walk. The other vaguely interesting hitting prospects, Mike Yastrzemski and Trey Mancini, each went 0-4 in the game.
Trenton (Yankees) 13, Bowie Baysox 8
Well, the Baysox scored a bunch of runs, and that’s about the only thing good that can be said about this game. The Thunder blasted Bowie pitchers for 17 hits in the game. Baysox starter David Hess, skipped last turn through the rotation to give him some rest, did not do well after the layoff, getting rocked for six runs in only 2.1 innings of work. Bowie relievers just kept giving up runs.
Baysox hitters also touched up the Thunder starter, Chance Adams, for six runs, but he was able to pitch into the sixth inning so his own bullpen didn’t have to shoulder as much of the burden of the game.
Of the vaguely interesting players, catcher Chance Sisco was 2-5 with a double, while shortstop Adrian Marin went 2-3 with a double and a triple. Marin also drew a walk and has raised his average by 19 points in the last week. Rehabbing big leaguer Caleb Joseph was 1-5 in the game.
Frederick Keys - postponed
The Keys game against Salem was suspended with the Keys leading 1-0 in the second inning. They’ll finish this game and play a second seven inning game tomorrow.
Delmarva Shorebirds - postponed
The Orioles affiliate was beating Kannapolis, 1-0, in the fourth inning when play was suspended. They also will finish this game tomorrow and play a second seven inning game afterwards.
Auburn (Walgreens) 4, Aberdeen IronBirds 0
The IronBirds only got six hits all game, which is not a good way to win a game. Two of the six hits were picked up by this year’s third rounder, Austin Hays, who went 2-4 with a double and stole two bases as well. He’s had a nice first two professional games, combining for five hits.
Aberdeen starter Travis Seabrooke pitched six innings and only allowed two runs on five hits, which is a fine outing that was not supported by his offense at all. So it goes.
