Orioles minors 7/16: Panic about Hunter Harvey

Most of the Orioles affiliates were rained out on Saturday. One who wasn’t was Aberdeen, where Hunter Harvey started and left early with a worrisome diagnosis.

Rochester (Twins) 4, Norfolk Tides 0

Both the Tides and the Red Wings had eight hits in the game, but Rochester was able to do more with their opportunities and actually, you know, score runs. Tides starter David Hale, recently outrighted off the 40-man, gave up four runs on eight hits in six innings.

If there’s some good news it’s that a lot of the offense was contributed by players who may potentially help the Orioles in the future. Trey Mancini was 1-3 with a double and a walk, while both Christian Walker and Mike Yastrzemski each went 2-4. So that’s something!

Bowie Baysox - Postponed, rain

Frederick Keys - Postponed, rain

Delmarva Shorebirds - Postponed, rain

Aberdeen IronBirds 9, Batavia (Marlins) 0

This looks like it should be nothing but good news. However, Hunter Harvey was the starter for the IronBirds and he was removed after only 1.1 innings and only 23 pitches thrown. The official word is “right flexor mass soreness,” according to MASN’s Roch Kubatko. That’s one of those potential Tommy John precursor scare phrases, so, not much to do now except cross our fingers.

An impressive effort from the Aberdeen offense in the game. They had 16 hits, drew three walks, and even reached base three times on errors. They went 9-19 with RISP in the game. Center fielder Ryan McKenna had the most impressive game, going 4-6 and driving in four runs.

Not many box scores to look at from Saturday’s action - and the GCL Orioles only got two hits, or I’d write about them too - but if you want to see exactly who did what, check out here.
