O’s minors, 7/22: Aberdeen’s offense explodes

The Gunk pitched like, well, not good last night.
Sean Gleason - Bowie Baysox

Norfolk 2, Toledo 5

Joe “The Gunk” Gunkel took the loss as he gave up five runs on nine hits in 6.0 IP. Ouch, that’s not going to work, Gunk. L.J. Hoes went 3-for-5, probably in retaliation for Dariel Alvarez getting promoted instead of him. Mike “Lil’ Yaz” Yastrzemski went 0-for-3 and is currently batting .227.

Bowie 5, Erie 4

The Baysox walked off the SeaWolves with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the ninth. Gee, nothing like waiting until the last minute, Bowie. Or should I call you Bowie? Anyway, the team won wearing those sweet David Bowie unis and Sharlon Schoop got a home run, so a good night all around.

Frederick 0, Salem 7

Franderlin Romero gave up five runs in five innings and the Keys managed just three hits, and two of those were by Jomar Reyes.

Delmarva 0, Hickory 4

Hickory put up a single run in four of nine innings, and the Shorebirds bats were nowhere to be found, leading to a 4-0 loss. Cristian Alvarado certainly wasn’t bad, giving up just two earned runs (one was unearned) in 6.0 IP. But when your team scores none, you’re gonna lose. Ryan MOuncastle and Alex Murphy both went 0-for-4.

Aberdeen 11, Brooklyn 2

Apparently, all the O’s MiLB runs were hoarded by Aberdeen last night, and they put a whoopin’ on Brooklyn. Ryan McKenna went 4-for-6, Kirvin Moesquit went 3-for-5 (and four RBI) and Stuart Levy and hris Clare both went 2-for-4. And yet no one for the IronBiords hit a home run.

For all box scores and to see what the O’s GCL and DSL teams did, check out the organization’s MiLB scoreboard from last night.

Today’s Probable Starters

Frederick: Cory Jones vs Salem (OMG IT’S COWBOY MONKEY NIGHT!!!!)

Delmarva: Brian Gonzalez vs Hickory (Fireworks night will work. Still, it’s no COWBOY MONKEY NIGHT!)

Aberdeen: TBD at Brooklyn
