Orioles minors 7/30: Wright wants to get back to Baltimore

Since being demoted to Norfolk, Mike Wright has pitched like a guy who wants to be back in Baltimore. That continued on Saturday.

Norfolk Tides 10, Indianapolis (Pirates) 4

Mike Wright continues to pitch in his “I don’t want to be in Norfolk any more!” tour. Another strong performance from Wright on Saturday, scattering seven hits and a walk over eight innings of work. Wright allowed four runs, but only two of them were earned. He struck out nine batters.

Some of his Norfolk teammates who’ve been in the big leagues before were hitting like they’d want to get back to Baltimore soon. Dariel Alvarez went 3-5 with three doubles. Christian Walker was 3-5. Even the outfield duo of L.J. Hoes and Xavier Avery both went 2-4 in the game.

Bowie Baysox 3, Akron (Indians) 2 (10 innings)

The two teams combined for 21 hits in the game and yet it took until the tenth inning for the Baysox to finally get that third, decisive run across the plate. Another erstwhile big-leaguer, Joey Terdoslavich, was the one who drove in the winning run with a double.

Another decent start at the Double-A level for Matthew Grimes, who surrendered two runs on six hits and a walk in 5.2 innings of work. Grimes only threw 72 pitches in that time, so it’s not like he was yanked for pitch count purposes. Yet another guy with MLB service time, Donnie Hart, pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up the win for the Baysox.

Frederick Keys - postponed

Delmarva Shorebirds 6, West Virginia (Pirates) 0

Hey, another winner! The Shorebirds made the most of their eight hits in scoring six runs in the game. Ryan Mountcastle, now the most interesting and perhaps only position player prospect at Delmarva, went 2-4 in the game and drove in one of the runs. The 19-year-old shortstop is now batting .284/.331/.406 in 87 games at Low-A.

The Shorebirds also got a great game from their starting pitcher. Brian Gonzalez, the 2014 third rounder and 20th-ranked Orioles prospect, held the Power to four hits and two walks over six innings of work. Gonzalez struck out four and needed just 80 pitches to get through six. Hooray for efficiency!

Aberdeen IronBirds - postponed
