GameThread for Baltimore Orioles at Oakland Athletics, Aug 10, 2016 10:05 PM EDT

The Orioles will try to win tonight, as I'm sure they do every night. Maybe today they'll be successful!

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Another day, another 10 p.m. game. With the way the Orioles have played the last two days maybe it's a blessing in disguise that I'll be asleep long before the game is over.

The starting pitching hasn't been so bad, and tonight Yovani Gallardo will try and continue that trend. His last start against the White Sox wasn't pretty good (6 IP, 2 ER) maybe he can replicate that.

As for the hitters, tonight Hyun Soo Kim and Pedro Alvarez are getting a rest. If only Steve Pearce were here to give Chris Davis a rest as well. Since he missed time with the flu back on July 21st, Davis has gone just 7-for-66, which is a .106 batting average. If you back it up to the beginning of July he has gone 16-for-112 (.143).

Of course it's not really fair to single out just Davis as pretty much everyone has forgotten how to hit. Let's cross our fingers that tonight is the night that they remember. Let me just check who's pitching for the A's....Ross Detwiler? An underachieving former first round pick who was just called up from AAA to make this start? And he's left handed?

We're screwed.
