Norfolk Tides 1, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 2
Xavier led off the game with a home run and it was all a down hill from there for the Tides. The offense, such as it was, went 0-6 with runners in scoring position. Dariel Alvarez also stole two bases. Odrisamer Despaigne and Pedro Beato held the Rail Riders scoreless through six innings, but the usually reliable Jason Stoffel gave the game away in the eighth. Tides manager Ron Johnson was tossed at the start of the bottom of the 8th.
Norfolk Tides 3, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 2
Zach Phillips vultured his ninth win of the season in what was already essentially a bullpen game. Andy Oliver started the game and escaped four innings allowing only two earned runs despite having allowed nine baserunners. Richard Rodriguez contributed his best outing of the year to the Tides effort. The big Dominican righty struck out five in 3.2 scoreless innings. The offense was, again, fairly quiet, but Michael Almanzar continued his hot summer with a single and a double. Almanzar is slashing .286/.353/.562 since the All Star Break and is slugging .628 against lefties this season.
The Frederick Keys were rained out.
