There's surely not much in the way of good feelings that one can summon up about the idea of the next two Orioles games being started by Wade Miley and Ubaldo Jimenez. There are just 37 games remaining in the season and 27 of those are against teams with winning records. The Orioles are a mere two games up in the wild card race and still just two games back for the AL East.
That means they are going to have to find ways to win more than a few of these games that look dire on paper, especially with Chris Tillman now on the disabled list. They are deprived of their most consistent starting pitcher even as they enter a stretch where, probably, they are going to have to win 60% of their remaining games, and even then who knows if that will be enough, depending on what these other teams do?
But the Orioles can't worry about what other teams are going to do. They just have to win, some way, some how, a good bunch of games. Can they do it? I don't know! They've gotten this far, and that's good of them, but they still have a ways to go.
Out-of-town scoreboard watch for tonight: Root for the Rays (against Boston), the Angels (against Toronto) and the Yankees - yes, really (against Seattle). You might also go ahead and root for the Twins (against Detroit) and the Marlins (against Kansas City).
