It’s Wednesday in Birdland, Camden Chatters. How are you feeling about our team’s chances today? Yesterday Mark used his Bird Droppings intro to talk about how well the Orioles will need to do to lock up a wild card spot, and things seemed pretty dire. They still are, but after a win against the Blue Jays it’s almost like you can imagine anything happening.
If you want to get the details of last night’s 5-3 win check out my recap here. In other games of note, the Red Sox and Mariners both lost, while the Astros and the Tigers, the team closest to the Orioles for second wild card, won again. The Yankees beat the Royals in extra innings. That is too many teams to pay attention to.

Back in Orioles rotation, Ubaldo Jimenez coming up huge - ESPN
How long can he keep it up? Nobody knows, I guess. Last night his new daughter, Jimevi, was there for the first of what will hopefully be many good games for her father.
Manny Machado Hits The Ball So Dang Hard - Deadspin
Manny Machado's home run last night exited the ballpark at 112.7 MPH. Wow.
Manny Machado on his 100th homer (plus more clubhouse quotes) - Steve Melewski
Do you like player quotes? Steve's got 'em.
Only Fans Know Why Orioles' Attendance is Lagging - Press Box
I bet the Orioles have an idea, too. Will they do anything to change it is the question.
Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! You have a ton of Orioles birthday buddies, but none more impressive than Frank Robinson! Mr. Robinson turns 81 years young today, and is the greatest baseball player to ever put on an Orioles uniform.
Your other birthday buddies include Steve Johnson, Armando Gabino, Ramon Ramirez, Tim Raines, Jr., Mike Hartley, and Tom Dukes.
On this day in Orioles history...
- In 1955, Bill Wight gave up five runs in the first inning and then followed that with eight no-hit innings. The Orioles lost 5-1.
- In 2007, the Orioles traded Steve "The Trashman" Trachsel to the Cubs for Rocky Cherry and Scott Moore.
- In 2012, Miguel Gonzalez dominated the Yankees and Mark Reynolds hit two dongs in a 6-1 Orioles win.
