Orioles minors 8/30: Keys win big, Cody Sedlock pitches well for Aberdeen

The Keys went on a hitting rampage, Austin Hays had a good night in Aberdeen, and multiple minor leaguers had four-hit games as the affiliates went 4-1.

Norfolk Tides 5, Gwinnett Braves 2

The Tides scored four runs in the eighth inning to come back and beat the Braves. The Tides had just one extra-base hit in the game, a double by L.J. Hoes. Dariel Alvarez and Michael Almanzar each had two hits. The Tides took a whopping 10 walks in the game.

Joe “The Gunk” Gunkel bounced back from his last start with two runs allowed in 5.2 innings. Gunk struck out five with no walks.

Harrisburg Senators (WAS) 3, Bowie Baysox 1

John Means picked up the ol’ quality start with 6 IP, 3 ER. But when your team scores only one run that just isn’t enough.

The good news in this game is that Chance Sisco went 4-for-4 with a double. Future September call up Chris Dickerson homered for the Baysox only run.

Frederick Keys 17, Potomac Nationals 10

The Keys had 22 hits in this game, which is pretty outstanding. They were actually losing this game going into the bottom of the 7th. Aderlin Rodriguez and Conor Bierfeldt both homered in this game while both Josh Hart and Stephen Wilkerson had four hits. D.J. Stewart was 1-for-6 with a double.

Delmarva Shorebirds 9, Greensboro Grasshoppers (MIA) 6

Starting pitcher Cristian Alvarado got the win despite a pedestrian five-inning, three-run start. It’s pretty easy to get a win when your team scores nine runs!

Leadoff hitter Cedric Mullins was a triple short of the cycle with a four-hit game. Stewart Levy and Drew Turbin also homered. Alex Murphy went 3-for-5 with a double. Ryan Mountcastle was hitless.

Aberdeen Ironbirds 6, State College Spikes (STL) 1

It was a good night for pitchers drafted in 2016 as three combined to hold the Spikes to four hits and one run. First round pick Cody Sedlock started and gave up just one hit and two walks in three innings. He was followed by 11th round pick Zach Muckenhim and 12th round pick Max Knutson, who each pitched three innings as well.

Third round draft pick Austin Hays had three hits on the night, including a home run.
