Geez, what a mess. The Orioles come into the fourth game of the series against the last place Rays needing some kind of magic from Wade Miley just to salvage a sweep. In a home series against a team that's now 64-84! When the Orioles should have been winning to keep pace in the AL East chase (the Yankees have regrettably let them down by being pathetic against the Red Sox) they've instead been flushing away their division chances.
So now they must somehow salvage this split in this last game, when Miley is pitching, before the Red Sox come to town for four games. The Orioles aren't out of the woods yet! Yes, they're three games up for the second wild card, but they're tied with Toronto for the first wild card and Toronto has the tiebreaker. Do YOU want the Orioles playing one game in Toronto to decide whether they can advance? No, me neither.
Well, I'm bummed out now.
Out-of-town scoreboard watch for today: Root for the Yankees (ugh) against the Red Sox, not that it matters except in theory (first pitch 8:00); the Indians against the Tigers (first pitch 1:10), and the Angels against the Blue Jays (first pitch 3:35). Astros-Mariners has become a wash. Both are three games back of the Orioles.
