Wednesday Bird Droppings: Where Jesus Montero is hitting a walk off

New, comments

Another slow news day for the Orioles, but at least they did something finally!

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

It's hump day! Of course for many of us it's only the second day of work so I guess we shouldn't complain. But what fun would that be?

The Orioles finally made a move yesterday, signing Jesus Montero to a minor league deal! What, you're not excited? Okay, let's just get to the links:

Orioles sign former top prospect Jesus Montero - Baltimore Sun
Jesus Montero isn't very good despite his former prospect status. He is also suspended for 50 games to start the season. But signing him to a minor-league deal is the only thing the Orioles have done lately, so we might as well talk about it.

Mike Mussina Should Be in the Hall of Fame | FanGraphs Baseball
Yes he should. Hopefully next year, since this year isn't looking so great.

Rookies Who Could Help the Orioles in 2017 - Baltimore Sports and Life
It seems unlikely to me that Chance Sisco will make an impact on the Orioles in 2017, but it wouldn't surprise me if we see Joe Gunkel for a spot start.

Has Ubaldo Jimenez Always Struggled In the First Inning? - Camden Depot
Ubaldo Jimenez had big troubles in the first inning last year. He had slightly smaller troubles in the rest of the game.

This, that and the other - School of Roch
Someone over at MASN has realized that "This, that, and the other" means absolutely nothing to anyone, because on MASN's front page this link is titled, "O's interest in re-signing Alvarez could hint team has moved on from Trumbo." What a perfectly lovely headline.

Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! You have but one Orioles birthday buddy, and it is Mr. Jay Tibbs. Tibbs pitched for the 1988-90 Birds and turns 55 years old today.

It was on this day in 2011 that the Orioles signed relief pitcher Kevin Gregg to a two-year deal. It's six years later and I still haven't acquired the taste for his pitching.
