I know, I know, it’s only National League baseball, but it’s the only game in town tonight, so let’s have fun with it. The Dodgers take on the Cubs in Los Angeles, with LA being up 1-0 in the best-of-seven NLCS. A World Series berth is, of course, on the line in the series.
Pitching for the Dodgers tonight is Rich “The Blister” Hill. I still can’t get over the fact that Hill, fully seven years after being horrible for the 2009 Orioles, re-emerged enough to convince teams that he was a top free agent rotation option. The guy is in the first year of a three year, $48 million contract.
Even taking into consideration the fact that he’s pitching in the NL, his 3.32 ERA over 25 starts is impressive, as is his 1.091 WHIP. All for not much more than the price per year of Ubaldo Jimenez. There are always decent free agent options to sign at every price tier... it’s just a matter of finding the right ones. The Orioles have not done so.
