For the first time in months, there will be Orioles playing baseball against people who aren’t the Orioles this afternoon. Chris Dickerson is the leadoff hitter, and the game will not be televised anywhere or on radio in Baltimore, but it’s Orioles baseball, dang it, and that’s something.
This would probably be a much more significant-seeming event if we were in the middle of some freezing cold winter, but seeing as it’s over 70 degrees in the Baltimore area today, it’s not like we really need that respite.
I mean, really, a lineup that looks like this in the regular season would make you cry:

I spend an unhealthy amount of time following news about the Orioles and I have got to say that before I looked at this lineup, I forgot that the Orioles had Dickerson in camp. Logan Schafer is also someone whose existence I had forgotten. Apologies to those gentlemen.
But hey, you never know who’s going to end up mattering in spring training. I remember five years ago I wrote about some road spring game where a bunch of nobodies were listed as the pitchers and I definitively proclaimed that not one of them would ever take the field for the Orioles in a regular season game. One of those pitchers turned out to be Miguel Gonzalez. Oops.
