Sunday Orioles spring training/WBC open thread

One set of Orioles is on the road playing the Twins in Florida. Another set will play in Miami for the USA and DR teams in the WBC.

If you haven’t already heard, the big news for this Sunday for the Orioles is that Chris Tillman was shut down before getting to his scheduled bullpen session. There is not going to be anything that happens in spring training or the WBC to cancel out that news.

But the Orioles, or at least some of them, have trekked to Twins camp to play an exhibition game this afternoon, and if you have MLB.tv or live in Twins territory you can watch it live. With increasing amounts of snow appearing in the forecast for Baltimore in a day or two, watching Orioles baseball any way that you can is a good idea.

The starting lineup:

  1. Chris Dickerson - RF
  2. Craig Gentry - CF
  3. Hyun Soo Kim - LF
  4. Chris Johnson - 3B
  5. Chance Sisco - C
  6. Trey Mancini - 1B
  7. Ryan Flaherty - 2B
  8. Robert Andino - SS
  9. Anthony Santander - DH

With Dylan Bundy as the starting pitcher. Other pitchers who have made the trip: Joe Gunkel, Zach Stewart, Jayson Aquino, Tim Berry, Bobby Bundy, Maryland’s own Ryan Meisinger, and Stefan Crichton.

After Tillman’s setback, Aquino is an important guy in that the competition for the sixth starter is now far more significant.

There’s also some World Baseball Classic action today. Jonathan Schoop had a 3-5 game against Japan today before you had even started your day, including a game-tying hit in the ninth inning, but the Netherlands fell to Japan, 8-6, in its first second round game.

The Dominican Republic and Colombia are in action this afternoon. Other WBC games to follow on Sunday: Italy vs. Puerto Rico at 3:30pm in Jalisco; Canada vs USA at 7pm in Miami; Mexico vs. Venezuela at 10pm in Jalisco.
