There’s not much more of spring training for players to get healthy and in game form. Counting tonight’s matchup, there are just eight Grapefruit League games remaining, plus one game against the Norfolk Tides.
Although the WBC returnees aren’t back in the lineup yet, Manny Machado, Jonathan Schoop, and Welington Castillo are all back in Orioles camp. Castillo might even catch some of the later innings tonight. The team will start to feel like a real O’s team soon - though right fielder Seth Smith still hasn’t played since March 8. Time is running out to deal with that, too.
This game will actually be on MASN tonight. That means, if you want to tune in, you will get a look at Chris Lee, one of the starting pitchers in competition to replace Chris Tillman for the month (or more) of his shoulder injury-related absence. Maybe he will even do decent!
Here’s the lineup that will be behind Lee, which thankfully for him will not include Pedro Alvarez playing in the field:
- Aneury Tavarez - CF
- J.J. Hardy - SS
- Chris Davis - 1B
- Mark Trumbo - RF
- Pedro Alvarez - DH
- Chris Johnson - 3B
- Hyun Soo Kim - LF
- Caleb Joseph - C
- Robert Andino - 2B
Zach Britton, Brad Brach, and Tyler Wilson are all expected to get into the game behind Lee against the Rays.
The USA-Puerto Rico WBC final will take place at 9pm in Dodgers Stadium, so join us after the O’s game goes off to see if American hero Adam Jones can help to push the USA into its first ever WBC title.
