Orioles prospects 4/11: Just don’t look at the Tides pitching staff

One interesting night on the farm saw Frederick score 16 runs and Norfolk give up 15. Oh, and in Bowie, Cedric Mullins still rocks.

Gwinnett (Braves) 15, Norfolk Tides 2

The Gwinnett Braves rocked the Tides from the start on Tuesday with starting pitcher Mike Wright yielding eight hits and five runs, all earned, in 4.1 innings pitched. He did strikeout four and walk none. Gwinnett had 17 hits in a rough night for Norfolk pitchers. Parker Bridwell and Zach Stewart also fared poorly, giving up five runs each.

Several familiar names to O’s fans saw action for the Tides at the plate including, Chris Dickerson (1-3), Pedro Alvarez (0-3), Chance Sisco (2-4), Robert Andino (0-4), Henry Urrutia (0-1) and Paul Janish (1-2). Janish is hitting .429 on the young season.

Ron Johnson’s Norfolk club stands at 1-5.

Bowie Baysox 2, Erie (Tigers) 4

Bowie fell to 3-3 on the season losing to the Erie SeaWolves. Orioles OF prospect DJ Stewart was 0-4 and is hitting .100 as April gets going. Cedric Mullins, the O’s #19 prospect, was 3-4 with a double and is batting .577.

Potomac (Nationals) 6, Frederick Keys 16

The Frederick Keys were the lone bright spot among Orioles minor league teams on Tuesday night thumping the Potomac Nationals. The Keys had 16 runs and 15 hits. 1B Alex Murphy hit a grand slam as part of a seven run sixth inning. They also scored four runs in the third and three in the fifth inning.

Ryan Mountcastle (#4 prospect), Jomar Reyes (#10 prospect) and Stephen Wilkerson also went deep for the Keys.

Nationals CF prospect Victor Robles was 1-4 and his season average stands at .348.

Delmarva Shorebirds 4, Greensboro (Miami) 5

Delmarva lost on a walk-off in the bottom of the ninth, after tying the game in the top of the inning, dropping their record to 1-5. Preston Palmeiro was 1-4 with a strikeout. Lucas Humpal – the pride of Corpus Christi, TX – pitched six innings for the Shorebirds, yielding only one run and striking out six.
