Orioles prospects 4/14: Not a bad night for starting pitching

Two starters were great, one was adequate, and well, Frederick gets to play again today.

MLB: Spring Training-Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees
Jayson Aquino had a pretty good night
Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Norfolk 3, Charlotte (White Sox) 1

Jayson Aquino righted the ship on his season with 6.0 IP while allowing just 1 run on 5 hits. He struck out 8 and walked none. Quite the improvement! Johnny Giavotella had 3 hits, and his season average (I know, I know, batting average) is now north of .350 but Paul Janish went hitless to see his average drop below .350.

Bowie 3, Harrisburg (Walgreens) 2

O’s #29 prospect David Hess had a strong game, going 6.0 IP and giving up 2 runs, just 1 earned. He struck out 4 while walking 1 and giving up a home run. Orioles #14 prospect Garrett Cleavinger worked 3.0 IP for the lengthy save, allowing no runs on 2 hits and striking out 3 against no walks. O’s #19 prospect Cedric Mullins went 1-for-4.

Frederick 3, Carolina (Brewers) 5

Starter Brian Gonzalez had a forgettable night, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits in just 5.1 IP. He struck out 4, but also walked 2. O’s #10 prospect Jomar Reyes went 3-for-4 with 3 doubles and scored 2 runs. Not a bad night.

Delmarva 7, Hagerstown (Walgreens) 2

Starter Travis Seabrooke had an adequate outing, going 5.0 IP but allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits and 1 home run, but no walks and 2 strikeouts. Jhon Peluffo then came on for the 3-inning hold, and Kory Groves closed out the 9th inning. Jake Ring went 4-for-5 with 2 doubles and no other Shorebirds player had more than 1 hit.
