Orioles post-game pie makes shocking return

The post-game pie was dead and gone. Buck Showalter said so. Then, out of nowhere, there it was in Cincinnati.

Some rules are meant to be broken. Adam Jones, the ringleader of the Orioles post-game pie delivery system of a couple of seasons ago, obeyed the rule banning the post-game pies for over a full season. That stretch of obedience came to an end on Wednesday night.

After a 2-0 win over the Reds, in which Ubaldo Jimenez pitched 7.2 scoreless innings and held the Cincinnati hitters to just two hits, Jimenez had on the MASN headset for a little post-game interview with Jim Hunter and Mike Bordick.

Then, out of nowhere, Jones struck:

Perhaps it was not actually a pie. It appears that it may have actually been some kind of strawberries and cream thing. Whatever it is, it was glorious, and for Jimenez, who as we all know has been maligned at times in his Orioles tenure, the pie was deserved. The Orioles will spend another night in first place and Jimenez is a big part of why.

Will this kick off a new wave of post-game pies? Time will tell. Let’s hope that the Orioles keep winning so we can find out.
