GAME START TIME UPDATE: Let's get this out of the way - the game won't start at 7:05 p.m. As of 6:15 p.m., that's all the beats knew on Twitter. But the team hopes to get it in tonight.
GAME START TIME UPDATE (2): It's now being reported the game will start at 7:30, so just 25 minutes later than scheduled. That's not so bad!
Back to your regularly scheduled game thread...
So, two seasons after Pablo Sandoval tried to make Jonathan Schoop a double amputee with a slide at second base, Red Sox manager John Farrell is livid about Manny Machado's slide in Dustin Pedroia last night. Not that Peds was particularly disturbed - "It’s my job, and it’s not the first time I’ve been hit and it won’t be the last. It’s baseball, man."
But John Farrell seems like he feels some great injustice has been done to his team, so we shall see if any retaliation comes about. If there is, expect it late in the game, if the outcome is already decided, because wearing a fastball in the ribs from knuckleballer Steven Wright probably isn't the sort of payback John Farrell wants to inflict, should he choose that route.
Hopefully, cooler heads (like Pedroia's) will prevail in the Boston dugout, the weather will hold out, and we'll actually get to see a game tonight.
