Orioles prospects 4/24: Shorebirds win as Rickard plays in first rehab game

Two off days and a rain out made for a slow day down on the farm, but at least Delmarva picked up a win!

There isn’t much to report on today as both Norfolk and Frederick were scheduled off last night and Bowie got postponed. I hope you like the Delmarva Shorebirds!

Joey Rickard made his first rehab start last night as he recovers from a sprained finger. Rickard played left field and batted second for the Shorebirds, going 1-for-4 with a strikeout. No word yet on the next move for Rickard, though there is speculation that he will only need a couple rehab games before he is ready to be taken off the DL.

Starting pitcher Travis Seabrooke gave up just one run in 4.1 innings, but allowed six hits and four walks in the short start. He was relieved by Jhon Peluffo, who had a very good night. Peluffo picked up the win with 3.2 innings in which he struck out three and had only one base runner.

The Birds offense scored all their runs in the first two innings with three in the first and one in the second. They had a lot of help from Lakewood’s starter, who threw four wild pitches in those two innings. One run in the first scored on a wild pitch with the other two coming on an RBI double from RF Cole Billingsley, his only hit of the night. In the second inning Alejandro Juvier singled, moved up two bases on two wild pitches, and scored on a single from DH Gerrion Grim.

Ryan McKenna (4th round, 2015), Collin Woody, and Juvier all had two-hit games for the Shorebirds. The first-inning double by Billingsley was the only extra-base hit.
