Thursday afternoon Orioles game thread: at Tigers, 1:10

Dylan Bundy has been good. Jordan Zimmermann, the Tigers starter, has not been good. Orioles, stop messing around and win this series.

Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

If the Orioles weren't bumming you out enough already, here is a game where Manny Machado is not in the starting lineup. Machado is dealing with a sore finger. The wags among you may wonder if he hurt it flipping off C.B. Bucknor after the horrible game-ending non-swing strikeout call, but no, it is reportedly his right index finger. There is also Caleb Joseph in the lineup for the day game after a night game, although with how he hit in the recent Royals series, that's not so bad.

What it comes down to is this: The Orioles have a good starting pitcher, Dylan Bundy, pitching today. The Tigers have a bad (thus far in 2017) starting pitcher, Jordan Zimmermann, getting the ball. So as far as which way it should go, well, that's obvious. Baseball doesn't always go the way that it should, which is what makes it interesting - if not always great for Orioles fans.

The Orioles don't exactly "need" a win today in that there are no must-win games in mid-May, but also they really need to win today because at this moment I am tired of watching them losing due to a crummier-than-expected pitching staff, so please Bundy pitch well, thank you.
