Norfolk Tides 9, Toledo Mud Hens 7
Gabriel Ynoa got the start in this one, but worked just 2.1 scoreless innings before being pulled for Paul Fry. There’s no news from Norfolk that says Ynoa was injured and had to leave the game due to anything unscheduled, so it was a short outing to say the least.
Pedro Alvarez, whose bat has been heating up after a rough start to 2017, hit his eighth HR of the season in this game. Mike Yastrzemski also collected a big fly, his second of the year. Leadoff man Chris Dickerson singled three times while Craig Gentry tripled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs.
Chance Sisco boosted his season average to .246 after collecting a pair of singles.
Bowie Baysox 10, Hartford Yard Goats 5
It was a big day for the middle of the Baysox lineup — D.J. Stewart went 2-4 with a double, Garabez Rosa (he of the .339 season batting average) tallied three hits including a home run, and 23-year-old middle infielder Adrian Marin collected two singles to boost his season batting average to .292.
Both Tucker Nathans and Armando Araiza collected multi-hit games as well, while recently promoted third baseman Stephen Wilkerson doubled and scored a run.
Bowie starter Brandon Barker tossed five innings, allowing four earned runs and seven hits while striking out just two. Jesus Liranzo threw three innings of one-run ball, an outing followed by Ryan Meisinger’s scoreless ninth.
Frederick Keys, Potomac Nationals (PPD, rain)
Delmarva Shorebirds 3, Lakewood BlueClaws 2 (Suspended in 6th, fog)
This is not a final, as a fog delay ultimately forced the game to be suspended. It’ll be picked up today at 5:05 prior to tonight’s game.
The Shorebirds sent 19-year-old Jhon Peluffo to the hill to kick off the game, giving him his first start of the year after allowing just a .207 average against in 24.1 innings in relief. Peluffo fanned four batters in four scoreless innings, walking none and allowing just a pair of hits. Keep an eye on his progression as the season rolls along.
While three runs have been scored in this contest, there have only been two Shorebirds hits — doubles from Collin Woody and Daniel Fajardo. Cole Billingsley walked twice; Jake Ring walked and stole his ninth base of the season.
