Norfolk Tides 3, Charlotte (White Sox) 8
The Charlotte Knights defeated Norfolk and Chris Tillman on Tuesday night. Stats don’t mean everything in a rehab start, according to Buck Showalter they don’t count for much at all, but Tillman’s line was not good.
In five innings, Tillman gave up five runs, two walks and four home runs. Three of the shots were of the solo variety and one was a two-run blast. He threw 91 pitches, with 52 strikes, striking out six. Time will tell where he pitches next.
Knights 2B Yoan Moncada – the center piece of the Chris Sale trade for the White Sox with Boston – was one for four, with a home run, and is batting .311. As far as names familiar to O’s fans, Robert Andino had two hits, and Chris Dickerson, Henry Urrutia, Pedro Alvarez, Chance Sisco and Paul Janish were each hitless.
7,331 fans witnessed the game at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, NC. Norfolk’s record is 9-15.
Erie (Tigers) 5, Bowie Baysox 6 (10 innings)
Relief pitcher Ryan Meisinger (3-0, 2.57) – born in Prince Frederick, Maryland – picked up the win throwing two innings for the Baysox against the SeaWolves. DJ Stewart was 0-5 with two strikeouts and his season average is .259.
SS Eric Salcedo, a switch hitter who was 4-5 on the night, homered and singled three times, including a walk-off with two outs in the tenth, had six RBI.
Bowie is 13-11 on the season.
(Game 1) Myrtle Beach (Cubs) 1, Frederick Keys 2 (7 innings)
The Pelicans faced the Keys in the first of two on Tuesday night with Frederick getting the victory. Ironically, Alex Asher – the O’s starter yesterday in Boston – started 25 games for the Pelicans in 2013 when they were an affiliate of the Texas Rangers.
Brian Gonzalez (2-2, 4.15) got the win, striking out seven in 6.2 innings pitched. SS Ryan Mountcastle paced Frederick going one for three and scoring the winning run. Mountcastle was hitting .323 after game one.
(Game 2) Myrtle Beach (Cubs) 2, Frederick Keys 8 (7 innings)
The Keys gained a sweep of the double header in the nightcap and were led again by Ryan Mountcastle. Mountcastle was three for four, with a home run and an RBI, raising his average to .340.
Cristian Alvarado got the win with a complete game. Frederick and Myrtle Beach have identical records of 14-12.
Delmarva Shorebirds 1, Columbia (Mets) 2
Tim Tebow – yes, that Tim Tebow – played left field for the Columbia Fireflies. Columbia, SC, is still SEC country, but it is not Gainesville, and Tebow batted seventh going zero for two, with two walks, a strikeout and a run scored. Tebow scored the winning run in the South Atlantic League game from third base on a walk with the bases loaded. He is hitting .231 overall.
Matt Trowbridge – a 13th round pick by the Orioles in 2013 from Central Michigan – took the loss. Trowbridge walked three and gave up a hit in 0.1 innings pitched.
The Shorebirds record is 12-14.
