The Orioles still have a chance to win this home series against the first place Yankees. They have a chance to lose it, too, in this Wednesday night rubber match. Which outcome the game ends up having will probably - though not necessarily - have a lot to do with the performance of the two starting pitchers.
That's good news for the Orioles if you're happy about three of the last four Kevin Gausman starts being quality starts - and it's good news for the Orioles if they're able to capitalize on the fact that Masahiro Tanaka is not having a good season at all, giving up home runs like they're going out of style. Tanaka has allowed 13 home runs in 55.1 innings, and he's getting hit around a lot even when he's not giving up homers.
Although Gausman is trending up, he did see the Yankees twice in April and they scored nine runs off of him in 10.2 innings. So basically, who the heck knows? As of this writing Adam Jones is back in the Orioles lineup after four games off, as long as they don't scratch him later, like what happened the last two days.
One player who isn't in the lineup is Welington Castillo, who may be headed back to the disabled list after taking a foul ball to a "bad area," which probably means the testicles. You may recall that something similar sent Caleb Joseph to the disabled list for a while last season. Oh, and don't forget that emergency catcher Ryan Flaherty is already on the DL, so stay safe, Caleb, because if you get hurt tonight, something grotesque could end up happening.
