Monday night Orioles game thread: at White Sox, 8:10

New, comments

The Orioles have lost 20 of their last 29 games. They can't solve that all in one night, but they can't solve it at all if they don't start winning. So hopefully they get that going tonight.

Patrick McDermott-USA TODAY Sports

The Orioles have sucked for most of the last calendar month and they have done so in a way that quite understandably might leave one feeling like there is no hope that things will be any different for the remainder of the season.

They have now lost nine straight road games and are just 10-20 on the road on the season. It's safe to say that the Orioles won't be competing for any dang postseason spot if they are that horrible on the road over a full season. A four game set in Chicago against the last place White Sox will be a key test as to whether they can start to arrest this slide somewhat. Even a series split would be a big improvement and still leave them with the potential to go somewhere good later on.

Manny Machado returns to the Orioles lineup, although he says his wrist is still sore. Let's hope this isn't the start of the next Orioles disaster. We've already seen from Zach Britton and probably also Chris Tillman that trying to come back from an injury before you're totally ready can be a bad, bad idea.

If this game ends up completely stinking - and heck, even if it doesn't - check out our draft night open thread to see who the Orioles will add to the organization in the top couple of rounds of this year's draft.
