The question of what the Orioles will do in J.J. Hardy's absence could have several different answers over the two months that he's expected to be out. The first answer in the first game without him is just to keep Manny Machado at third base and have utility infielder Ruben Tejada play at shortstop.
It was a weekend of offense for the Orioles against the Cardinals. Can they carry that over as they head into this series with the Indians? They'll be facing former Cy Young winner Corey Kluber on Monday night, but the good news there is that Kluber has not been pitching like the Cy Young version of himself so far this season - or at least, he's not getting Cy Young-level results, with a 4.15 ERA through nine starts. He does, however, have a 3.25 FIP, so maybe he's been getting unlucky.
If it was hot weather that helped fuel the Orioles home run explosion over the weekend, that's a bad sign for them tonight. Colder air has come through along with a heavy thunderstorm that rolled through the Baltimore area on Monday afternoon.
The storm may linger long enough to end up impacting the game's start time, though it seems like the storm should depart for good in time to play baseball without any mid-game delays once the contest actually begins. They may even start on time! Outdoor BP was canceled, for whatever that's worth.
Dylan Bundy has a 5.06 ERA through three June starts. His only two starts of fewer than six innings pitched have been in June as well. Hopefully he's able to start to change that tonight.
