Aberdeen IronBirds 2, Hudson Valley Renegades (Rays) 11

Leading with the important news, Zach Britton started the game for the IronBirds as part of his rehab and went one inning, striking out one, walking one and giving up zero runs. Britton faced the minimum three batters while striking out Vidal Brujan, walking Emilo Gustave and getting Zacrey Law to ground into a 4-6-3 double play.

Britton threw 12 pitches on the night and in remarks to the media was pleased with how he felt. Based on roster moves, the soonest he can return to the big league club is Tuesday, July 4.

As for the rest of the game, it was Aberdeen’s season opener, and they were crushed 11-2, giving up 14 hits. Nick Gruener – the O’s 22nd round draft pick in 2016 – had a bad night giving up nine runs, on seven hits in only one inning. Gruener has a degree from Harvard and was a solid pitcher for the Crimson. Let’s hope he finds his way for the O’s.

Norfolk Tides 2, Durham Bulls (Rays) 3

Durham snuck past Norfolk on Tuesday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in front of 4,702 fans. The Tides are 30-41 on this season.

Chance Sisco was 1-3 and is hitting .285, Pedro Alvarez was 0-4 and is down to .210. Chris Lee pitched 5.2 innings and gave up three runs and took the loss. Lee is 4-3 as a starter for Norfolk.

Bowie Baysox 2, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets) 7

Cedric Mullins was 1-4 and DJ Stewart 2-4, but Bowie fell to 33-37 on the season. The problem Tuesday was the pitching of David Hess who went 5.2 innings, giving up nine hits and six runs. Hess is 6-5 during 2017. RHP Mickey Jannis held the Baysox to six hits over eight innings.

DSL Orioles 1, DSL Blue Jays 6

Toronto’s Dominican Summer League (DSL) team knocked off Baltimore’s Tuesday by a score of 6-1. Left-handed O’s starter Miguel Polanco took the loss, pithing five innings and giving up six hits and three runs. Polanco is 0-3 on the season. SS Leisxonyer Rivero had the lone Orioles RBI with a single to right in the second inning. Rivero is 20 years old and is from Caracas, Venezuela.

The DSL O’s are 4-11 at the start of their 72-game season.
