The Orioles almost didn't give up five runs yesterday. It was so close! But in the end they allowed exactly five, which kept their dubious streak alive. They are now up to 18 straight games with at least five runs allowed, two behind the 1924 Phillies for longest ever. If Wade Miley has his way, that won't happen. But will he be good enough to stop it?
The Orioles will be without their leader tonight as Buck Showalter is off with his family for the birth of his first grandchild. The internet tells me that the baby boy was born earlier today at a very healthy 9 lb, 1 oz. No name, though. Maybe it's Buck! Congrats to the Showalter family.
Tonight John Russell will be managing in Buck's stead, so if the Orioles win AND allow fewer than five runs, I say fire Buck and hire John! Who's with me? Hello? Is this thing on?
No Adam Jones in tonight's lineup, which makes me sad. The powers that be say they are just giving him a rest since the next six games will be on astroturf, which can be tougher on the body. And Adam is tough enough on his body as is.
