The Orioles have really done it over the past couple of days. That is, they have won a couple of games and it's just enough to start to trick you into wondering if things are getting better, even though you really know better than to believe such a thing after the starting pitching we've seen this season.
Yet back-to-back quality starts and suddenly all of the stories about how the Orioles are going to be sellers at the trade deadline are like, "Well, but, hmm..." And that's just two good starts in a row for the first time in a month and a half! What if Kevin Gausman turns in the rotation's third consecutive quality start against the Rangers tonight? Maybe the Rangers just aren't that good right now.
The Orioles would have to sweep their way through the entire rest of this homestand just to have a .500 record again. From there, they would have to actually start passing the teams ahead of them in the wild card standings, especially by winning games on the road, which the O's haven't done a whole lot this season. It is not very likely.
But any given night is more fun if we can watch an Orioles win, so hopefully they can do that tonight.
