Orioles prospects 7/28: Rain washes away a lot of baseball

Four Orioles affiliates had games rained out on Friday night, and even Norfolk, who played, had their game shortened by rain.

MLB: Chicago White Sox at Baltimore Orioles Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Norfolk Tides 8, Columbus (Indians) 5 (7 innings, rain)

The rains came when the Clippers had the tying run at the plate in the top of the seventh inning. They did not go away, and so the game was called. It was official since they had completed five innings.

Gabriel Ynoa wasn't good starting for the Tides, like many Tides starters and Orioles starters have not been good this year, allowing five runs on eight hits in six innings of work. Because of the vagaries of baseball stat-giving rules, Ynoa was awarded a win since the Tides pounded the Clippers for eight runs.

Five Tides batters managed to have multi-hit games even though they only got six innings to bat. That includes catching prospect Chance Sisco, who was 2-4 in the game. He did not face any base-stealing attempts. This leaves Sisco with a .278/.348/.387 batting line for the season.

Bowie Baysox - postponed, rain

Frederick Keys - postponed, rain

Delmarva Shorebirds - postponed, rain

Aberdeen IronBirds - postponed, rain

GCL Rays 8, GCL Orioles 7

I don't usually check in on these guys, but hey, everybody else was rained out. Even the Dominican Summer League Orioles got rained out.

Jomar Reyes, rehabbing down in the GCL, was 1-5 in this game. Jacob Brown, no relation to this blogger, hit his third home run of the GCL season after being drafted in the 18th round this season. J.C. Escarra, a 15th round pick this season, had the best game, going 2-4 with a pair of doubles. He drew a walk as well.

Complete box scores from all two of Friday's games can be found here.
